We are all so excited and honoured that the Behind the Haystacks (Πίσω από τις Θημωνιές) by Asimina Proedrou, is among the 19 films which have been selected for the first round of the European Film Academy’s European Film Awards Feature Film Selection 2023.
The Academy members will vote for the selected films to choose the nominees of the 36th European Film Awards, in the categories: European Film, European Director, European Actor *, European Actress ** and European Screenwriter
Behind the Haystacks, as part of the Feature Film Selection 2023, will also be considered for the European Excellence Awards in the categories(there are no nominations for these categories): Cinematography (Simos Sarketzis), Editing (Electra Venaki), Production Design (Edouardos Georgiou), Costume Design (Kiki Miliou), Make up & Hair (Dora Nazou), Original Score (Marios Strofalis), Sound (Nikos Papadimitriou, Elektra Venaki, Persefoni Miliou, Kostas Varympopiotis) and Visual Effects (Antonis Kotzias).
On 7th of November 2023 we will find out if we make it to the final round.
BEHIND THE HAYSTACKS receives 10 Greek Film Awards, while Asimina Proedrou has been honoured with 3 IRIS Awards, 7 more went to the amazing Cast & Crew!
The program shines a light on exceptional women filmmakers, amplifying their voices in an industry burdened by gender disparity, said Sydney Film Festival Director Nashen Moodley.
The selected films are: Band by Álfrún Örnólfsdóttir (Iceland), Behind the Haystacks by Asimina Proedrou (Greece, Germany, North Macedonia), Elaha by Milena Aboyan (Germany), Family Time by Tia Kouvo (Finland, Sweden), The Girl from Tomorrowby Marta Savina (Italy, France), The Quiet Migration by Malene Choi (Denmark), Smoke Sauna Sisterhood by Anna Hints (Estonia, France, Iceland), Sunlight by Claire Dix (Ireland), That Afternoon by Nafiss Nia (The Netherlands) and Thunder by Carmen Jaquier (Switzerland).
BEHIND THE HAYSTACKS by ASIMINA PROEDROU is nominated for 17 Greek Film Awards / Iris Awards by the Hellenic Film Academy.

Receiving 17 Nominations in 16 categories is the most in the history of the Hellenic Film Academy.
